WildCats Continue Strong Spring with Two Wins

BAYAMóN, PR – The Randolph College softball team played two games on Sunday in Puerto Rico, and took down both opponents with ease.  The WildCats defeated Centenary (NJ) College for the second day in a row, this time 9-0 in five innings, and then took down the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamón 10-2 in five as well.

The 'Cats got things started quickly once again.  Ki Jenkins led off the game with a walk.  Jessica Nowak drove her in with a single to right field, as Jenkins used her speed to race around the bases.  While the offense did not score a run in the second and the fifth innings, the two in between provided all the necessary fireworks.

Rachel Hickman walked to start the second, and Jenkins followed it with a single.  Jenkins stole second to get into scoring position, but it would not have mattered anyway as Nowak hit a double to left center, knocking in both runners.  Hunter Glavé hit her in with a single to right field, putting the lead at 4-0.

Brittany Campbell led off the fourth the same way the other two innings were started, with a base on balls.  The pitcher, Gracyn Allen-Ingle, knocked her over to second.  Following a wild pitch, Erin Wehrhan sent Campbell home with an infield hit.  Hickman, Jenkins, and Nowak all followed with singles, as Jenkins and Nowak drove in the sixth and seventh runs respectively.  Glavé hit a sac fly to score Jenkins, and Ashley Dudding knocked in Nowak for the ninth run of the game.

While the offense was crushing, Allen-Ingle (3-0) was dominating in the circle.  She set down the side in order in the first, third, and fifth inning.  She also struck out six during the win.

In the second game of the afternoon, the WildCats won another game by mercy rule.  The 'Cats started Lauren Morris in the circle for the nightcap.  Morris threw four great innings against UPRB, earning her first win of the season.  Maggie Goldberg came in relief for the fifth for Randolph, and closed out the game.

Randolph (7-2 overall) will play two games as well on Monday.  The WildCats will square off with Centenary for the final time at 9 a.m. EST.  Then, the 'Cats will play DeSales University (1-0) at 11 a.m. EST.
