DANVILLE, Va. - The Randolph College softball team went to Averett on Saturday for an ODAC road doubleheader.
Game One
It was the Cougars all game one as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on eight more runs in the second inning to open this game up. Averett added another run in the third and remained scoreless in the fourth inning for the run-rule win.
Four WildCats each recorded a hit apiece,
Haili Gonzalez,
Addy Compton,
Alexx Reinwald, and
Michaela Williams. In the circle was
Austyn Moran to start, and
Delaney Sipes came in as relief and struck out one.
Game Two
The team battled back in game two after Averett opened with seven runs to have a lead heading into the third inning. It was Compton that stopped the Cougars' run when she brought home Gonzalez, Victoria Poretta, and
Sammie Carroll for the three RBI double to left center to bring the score 7-3. The WildCats tacked on another run in the third inning after a sac fly from
Amanda Lawhorn to score Compton.
However, the Cougars were able to hold off the WildCats after adding on four more runs across the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
Compton led the team with three RBIs and one run. She went 1-for-3 along with Gonzalez. In the circle,
Rylee Humble pitched a complete game with one strikeout.
The team is on the road to Sweet Briar on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
