The Randolph athletic training staff provides our intercollegiate student athlete’s with high quality medical care as Virginia licensed health care professionals.  The certified athletic trainers deliver care and services in injury prevention, injury assessment and evaluation, immediate medical care, and rehabilitative protocols including therapeutic exercise and modalities.

Athletic Trainers

Head Athletic Trainer - Matt Yates

Matt_Yates

Yates assumed the title of Head Athletic Trainer in July 2018 after serving the previous two years as an assistant trainer. Prior to Randolph, Yates spent two years at crosstown Liberty University as a graduate assistant.  While with the Flames, Yates worked primarily with two different teams.  He assisted the football team in his first year, before helping the track and field program during his second year.  Yates also served as the head team leader at the Gatorade Summer Camps in the summer between his two years at Liberty.

Prior to LU, Yates attended Gardner-Webb University, majoring in Athletic Training.  While majoring in the field, he served two years within the G-WU athletic training department, gaining valuable experience.  During the summers, he interned with Carolina Panthers of the National Football League and Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League.

Yates is also a member of several regional and national organizations.  He is a member of the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association (VATA), the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association (NCATA), Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association (MAATA) and the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

Yates attained his B.S. in Athletic Training from Gardner-Webb in May of 2014.  He recently earned a Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition from Liberty.

Assistant Athletic Trainer - Courtney Lucado  

Courtney rejoined the Athletic Training staff in November 2023 after having previously served as assistant athletic trainer during the 2022-23 academic year. She is a 2019 graduate of Randolph with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Exercise Studies. She completed her Master of Science in Athletic Training at Lynchburg in May 2022.   Courtney Lucado Headshot

Prior to returning to Randolph, she did clinical rotations with the University of Lynchburg’s men’s lacrosse team, men’s and women’s track and field, field hockey, and women’s lacrosse teams from August of 2020 to May 2022. She also completed clinical rotations with Jefferson Forest High School, Chiromed Chiropractic, and Free Clinic from the spring to early winter of 2021.

While a student at Randolph, Lucado interned with the training staff from 2018-2019 and did a summer internship in 2017 at Sentara Healthcare in the Physical Therapy Department.

Lucado was a four-year member of the WildCats softball team from 2015-2019. She played both outfield and catcher.

Lucado is certified as an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor. She is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.


Assistant Athletic Trainer- Lauren Morris
Morris joined the athletic training staff in January 2024. She was most recently at Emory and Henry College where she was an Associate Athletic Trainer since August 2023 and before that an Assistant Athletic Trainer.   Lauren Morris

Prior to Emory and Henry, Morris was a Graduate Assistant/Teaching Assistant at Appalachian State University. She completed clinical experience with the wrestling and cheerleading teams and also the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Morris also completed clinical hours at the App State Faculty and Staff Injury Clinic, AppOrtho Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, BreakThrough Physical Therapy, and Avery County High School in Newland, N.C. and the App State football team. Morris started her career at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in the Athletic Training Department.

Morris graduated Cum Laude from Randolph in 2018 where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Exercise Studies.  She was a four-year member of the softball team and three-year captain ending her career hitting .345 with seven home runs, 81 hits, and 45 RBI. She was named to the 2018 ODAC First Team and Virginia SID All- State Second Team at designated player.

Morris earned her Master’s of Science in Athletic Training from Appalachian State in 2022.

Morris is a Virginia DHP Licensed Athletic Trainer and BOC Certified Athletic Trainer. She is also an American Heart Association Provider, a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, and an Adult Mental Health First Aider.

Team Physician Omar Elkhamra, MD   

Omar Elkhamra joined Randolph as a team physician in the fall of 2014, working with the Orthopedic Center of Central Virginia.

Dr. Elkhamara is a graduate of Beirut Arab University in Lebanon, completing his residency at the Internal Medicine Cleveland Clinic Health System.

He has practiced sports medicine with the University of Pennsylvania and served as an assistant to the team physician of the Philadelphia Flyers and Philadelphia Eagles.

He is also a Certified Impact Consultant for the management of concussions.Omar Elkharra
