Randolph Women Fall at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team got a career-best effort from Jade Jarvis (Sugar Grove, Va./Rural Retreat) but was short in the end as it fell to Bridgewater 79-49 on Wednesday evening. The Eagles even their record at 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the ODAC. The WildCats fall to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

Jarvis scored 13 points on the night while pulling down eight rebounds in her fourth career start. Maura McMahon (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) also had 13 points to go along with three assists and one steal.

The teams traded baskets in the first quarter of play until the Eagles broke off a 7-0 run to lead 13-6 with 2:36 remaining. The lead grew to 18-8 but the 'Cats cut into the deficit with another 7-0 run to get to 18-15 before Bridgewater's Rebecca Harvey drained a three with eight ticks left to give the home team a 21-15 lead.

The WildCats kept up with the Eagles in the second period as they trailed 25-22 with 8:28 remaining following a jumper from Sarah Wright (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover). Bridgewater had a 34-26 lead with 5:29 showing on the clock before going on a 7-0 spurt to up its advantage to 41-26 at the 1:23 mark. The Eagles would go into the locker room ahead 43-28 at the break.

The Eagles stretched their lead out in the third quarter as Harvey hit another three just over two minutes in to bring the score to 46-28. Bridgewater outscored Randolph 18-10 in the third and 18-11 in the fourth quarter.

Wright added eight points for the WildCats. She had a career-high three steals while tying her career-high in rebounds with six. Breyanna Rice (Wake Forest, N.C./Heritage) contributed six points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots. The four blocked shots are the most for a Randolph player since Megan Russell last did in December of 2013.

The WildCats return to the RAD this Saturday as they host Shenandoah. Tip off will be at 2:00 p.m. Randolph will look to for revenge on the Hornets after a 62-60 loss back on December 4.
