LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's basketball team battled through four tight quarters but fell 61-55 to the Hollins Tuesday night inside Frances and Don Giles Gymnasium.
The WildCats kept the contest close throughout, with three ties and five lead changes, but a strong third quarter from Hollins proved to be the difference.
The first quarter saw around three minutes without scoring for both teams. It was
Jaellen Hillery who converted on free throws to put the WildCats up 2-0. A quick response from Hollins tied the game.
Taniya Jackson got in the paint for a layup to put Randolph back in front. It was a 15-6 run for Hollins to close out the quarter, 17-10.
Randolph responded in the second, outscoring the Hollins 16-11 to trim the deficit to 28-26 at halftime with good free throw shooting and made baskets behind-the-line. Randolph's defense forced key stops and turned defense into offense to keep momentum heading into the break.
Both teams traded baskets in the third quarter, but Hollins used an early run and perfect shooting from the free throw line in the period to gain separation. Randolph stayed within striking distance behind a strong shooting stretch, entering the fourth quarter down 48-42.
The WildCats made one final push in the closing minutes, cutting the lead to four late in the game, but Hollins went 6-for-9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the 61-55 win.
Sophia Stevens led Randolph with 14 points, knocking down two three-pointers and adding seven rebounds. Jackson followed with 12 points, while
Pariz Minor collected nine rebounds and

The team is back on Saturday against Shenandoah for the regular season finale and senior day at 7 p.m.
