Box Score 2 LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Coming into today's game in a deadlock for the league's final playoff spot, Randolph earned a key split against a team with a 19-5 record.
Randolph won game one, 4-2, before falling in a rain-delayed and darkness-shortened game two, 8-4.
In game one, Randolph trailed early after giving up two early runs in the top of the first.
Junior Hannah Winfree settled down on the rubber after that, shutting down the Wasps for the remainder of the game.
She got both of those runs back herself in the fourth, as she singled to right-center, driving in both first-year Brittany Campbell and sophomore Hunter Glavé.
Just one pitch later, senior Patti Vinson homered to left-center to double Randolph's score and give Winfree a two-run cushion, which is all she would need.

E&H threatened in the sixth, but first-year Haley Brickles made a key defensive play, going to her right to get the force at third to end the inning.
In the seventh, the tying run was at the plate, but Brickles flipped to her middle infield partner, junior Jessica Nowak, to end the game.

In game two, Randolph got on the board first through a double from Glavé, driving in Nowak.
With first-year Lauren Morris in the circle, that lead held up until a rain delay in the top of the third, which lasted almost 90 minutes.
Out of that break, E&H equalized in the top of the fourth.
Vinson came through again for the WildCats in the bottom of the fourth, this time singling in sophomore Jackie Lamberty to put Randolph up again.
With darkness approaching, Randolph was within one out of earning the likely win, but E&H rallied to take the lead, 8-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, Glavé drove in Brickles and first-year Gracyn Allen-Ingle singled in Nowak as Randolph tried to rally, but a close play at the plate ended the inning before umpires called the game for darkness.
With the split, Randolph moves up into sole possession of the final playoff spot, but have played two more games than the seventh seed, EMU and the ninth-ranked Shenandoah Hornets.
Emory & Henry is one of five teams with at least nine conference wins.
Randolph next travels to Eastern Mennonite Saturday before hosting Bridgewater for Senior Day on Sunday for Vinson and classmate Haleigh Wilson.
That contest will end Randolph's conference schedule for 2015, while 10 teams will need another week to complete their slate.
