Glave Breaks Softball's Home Run Record in ODAC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- What started as an impressive pitchers' duel turned into a dramatic offensive contest in the second game of the ODAC tournament.

Through the top of the fifth inning, the teams combined for just three hits, but Guilford's offense tacked on runs late to take a five-run lead before Randolph rallied.

The WildCats scored four in the top of the seventh, including a record-setting 10th home run of the year by sophomore Hunter Glavé, but Randolph fell, 5-4.

Through the first five innings, the bases remained mostly clear as only Guilford scored in that time period on an unearned run off of junior pitcher Hannah Winfree.

With runners on second and third and nobody out, Winfree worked out of more trouble with a pair of foul outs to first-years Haley Brickles and Rebecca Montgomery.

In the bottom of the fifth, Guilford scored three to pad its lead, two of which were unearned.

Randolph's offense came alive in the last two innings with two-out rallies.

After two outs in the top of the sixth, Glavé walked to get the rally started.

First-year Brittany Campbell hustled out a ground ball to force an error and senior Patti Vinson singled to load the bases.

With the tying run up, however, the WildCats could not push any runs across to cut into the deficit.

After a Guilford insurance run, Randolph got onto the scoreboard in the seventh with another two-out rally.

Montgomery singled in the first run of the game with two strikes to bring in senior Haleigh Wilson.

Brickles was hit by a 2-2 pitch to put two runners on for the ODAC's leading home run hitter.

Glavé did not disappoint, hitting another two-strike pitch, this time over the right-center field fence, to pull Randolph within one.

With the blast, she becomes the first WildCat in program history to hit double-digit home runs in a season.

On the season, the first baseman also finishes with the highest slugging percentage in program history.

Next up, Campbell made great contact as the tying run, but her bid for a tying homer went just foul, leaving the WildCats just one run short.

With the defeat, Randolph is eliminated from the double-elimination bracket.
