Two One-Run Games Lead to Important Softball Split With Eastern Mennonite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- With the end of the season looming, Randolph rallied for a huge split in ODAC action Saturday.

Eastern Mennonite won game one, 4-3, on a walkoff to open the day.

Randolph used a five-run inning in game two to take a 6-5 victory and a split.

With the split, both of these teams are on seven wins, to tie for the seventh-most in the league with Randolph playing two more games than EMU and the ninth-seeded Shenandoah Hornets.

With Randolph closing the season Sunday, the WildCats (7-11) and Hornets (5-11) seem to be hunting for that final playoff sot, unless the Royals falter down the stretch.

EMU got out to an early start in game one, scoring the first three runs of the game, with one scoring on a wild pitch in the third and two more coming around in the fourth on hits.

Junior Rachel Hickman singled in senior Haleigh Wilson in the fifth to get one back for Randolph.

The WildCats tied the game up in sixth, when first-year Brittany Campbell drove in junior Jessica Nowak and sophomore Hunter Glavé in a clutch moment.

The WildCats were on the wrong end of a walk-off, however, as a double ended game one.

In the second game, Danyele Smith hit two early home runs for EMU, driving in the first four runs of the game.

The game's momentum swung drastically in the fourth, however, as Randolph posted five runs on a two-out rally.

After a Campbell walk, Randolph made two quick outs before Wilson singled to cause some trouble.

First-year pitcher Lauren Morris helped her own cause by doubling in both teammates and getting herself into scoring position.

Sophomore Jackie Lamberty ran for Morris and came around on a home run by Hickman down the left field line, suddenly tying the score.

After first-year Haley Brickles continued her stellar rookie season with a double, Nowak brought her around on a single to put Randolph ahead.

A crucial insurance run came in the fifth when senior Patti Vinson singled in junior Hannah Winfree.

That run mattered, as EMU struck again in the sixth for one more before first-year Gracyn Allen-Ingle earned her second save of the year to close out Morris's win.

Randolph closes its ODAC slate on Sunday with a Senior Day matchup with Bridgewater at 2 p.m., where Wilson and Vinson will be honored pregame.
