Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ga. -- After struggling snow for the first two weeks of the year, softball went south to finally open its season.
Facing two teams with a combined 16 contests under their belt already, Randolph fell twice in the event hosted by Agnes Scott.
Against Adrian, Randolph dropped a nail-biter, 6-5, while Agnes Scott took an 8-2 decision.
In game one, Randolph allowed two runs in the bottom of the second but got one back on an unearned run.
Adrian got four in response in the bottom of the third to make the lead five.
Sophomore Hunter Glavé picked up right where she left off in her Rookie of the Year campaign last year, hitting a grand slam to cut the lead back to one suddenly.
Randolph got runners into scoring position in both of the final two innings, but couldn't get the run across.
In the sixth, first-year Haley Brickles made an attempt at the plate but she was thrown out at home trying to score from first on a double to center by first-year Lauren Morris.
First-year Gracyn Allen-Ingle was stranded at third in the seventh to end the contest.
Junior Hannah Winfree pitched five innings, while Allen-Ingle had one scoreless frame.
In game two, Randolph fell behind early, 6-0 before getting one back on an unearned run in the fifth.
The team conceded two more in the bottom of that frame, however, making a homer by senior Patti Vinson not enough.
Allen-Ingle and Morris took to the rubber for Randolph in the contest. Allen-Ingle gave up six runs, none of which were earned, while Morris conceded two earned runs in two innings.
Randolph has a quick turnaround with two games Sunday hosted by Emory.
The WildCats will play DePauw at 11 a.m., and the #16 ranked Eagles at 2:00 p.m.
