Randolph's Offense Posts Near-Perfect Day in Doubleheader Softball Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph scored in all but one inning today over two games against Sweet Briar, both of which were wins.

The WildCats earned game-ending hits in both halves of the doubleheader to invoke the eight-run rule in the fifth innings.

Game scores were 8-0 and 12-4 in favor of the hosts.

In each game, every WildCat with a plate appearance reached at least one time.

Junior Hannah Winfree pitched game one and didn't need much offensive help, posting her second shutout in March, allowing just two hits over five innings while striking out eight.

In the bottom of the first, the offense gave Winfree more than enough support with three runs driven in on extra-base hits by sophomore Hunter Glavé and first-years Lauren Morris and Haley Brickles.

Junior Jessica Nowak drove in a pair in the second on a single and senior Haleigh Wilson doubled in another in the third before a wild pitch brought home first-year Dianne Davis.

The only inning all day without a run came in the fourth, but the WildCats reached the eight-run plateau in the fifth when junior Rachel Hickman drove in sophomore Tristan Hartle to seal the win.

In game two, Randolph conceded three in the top of the first but only needed three batters in the bottom of the inning to tie it up as Glavé brought home Nowak and Hickman.

First-year Rebecca Montgomery drove in Brickles to put Randolph ahead for good.

Hickman came around again in the second on a wild pitch to add another run.

Brickles drove in junior Erin Wehrhan in the third, then scored on a throw off of a stolen base attempt by first-year Brittany Campbell.

Campbell scored via the same method minutes later while sophomore Ashley Dudding swiped second.

After SBC got a run back, Brickles doubled in Glavé and came around on Campbell's double. Campbell later scored on Dudding's single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Campbell ended the game with a shot down the line which brought in Morris from third.

Brickles finished game two just a home run shy of the cycle, going 5-for-6 with four runs, three RBIs and 10 total bases.

Randolph is next squared off against reigning ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
