Senior Post Players Shake Up Record Book, But Women's Basketball Falls

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Randolph dropped a 53-46 decision in women's basketball today, as Washington and Lee came from behind to earn an ODAC victory.

In the game, senior Allie Druffel joined Jennifer Prewitt and Michelle Brockman as the only WildCats since 2000 with at least 16 rebounds in a game.

In addition, senior Jensen Hoover is now the program's all-time leader in games played and started, while becoming just the second player in program history to reach 2,500 minutes in her career.

The two post players started the game with a basket each to give Randolph an early lead.

The teams battled early, with five consecutive scoring possessions resulting in lead changes midway through the half.

A 6-0 run gave Randolph an edge it would maintain for the rest of the half, however, as the WildCats minimized the Generals offensively for the latter part of the half.

Just before intermission, Randolph received a three from junior Abigail Bullins on the team's final possession.

The three pushed Bullins above 50 threes for the season, making her one of just 10 players in program history to break that plateau in a single season.

With time expiring, the Generals, who were 1-for-14 from three in the first 19:56 of the game, received a triple to cut the lead to 26-21 at halftime.

After W&L cut the lead to 28-27 over the first 4:49 of the second half, sophomores Jacqueline Hockman and Brie Holdren went on a 5-0 run to put Randolph up by six.

The WildCats would maintain the lead thanks to that run until a 6-0 spurt gave the Generals their first lead in over 20 minutes, 39-38, with 6:41 to go.

Hockman was the next to score, hitting from the floor to put Randolph back on top, but another 6-0 spurt put W&L ahead.

With W&L clinging to a small lead, Randolph looked to receive a break trailing by five with 17 seconds to go.

After a pair of missed free throws, the WildCats pushed in transition, but what could have been a three point play opportunity was ruled a charge instead, giving the Generals the ball back with time expiring.

Druffel and Hockman led the WildCats in scoring with 10 points apiece, with Druffel's 16 boards leading in rebounding.

Hoover had eight points and eight rebounds on her record-setting night.

With the loss, the WildCats lose control of their sole possession of the No. 9 seed, dropping into a tie with Roanoke with a game to go.

In a muddled playoff picture, the WildCats could play any one of five teams in the first round of the ODAC tournament.

Before that, however, the team closes out its regular season slate as it hosts Emory and Henry this weekend.

Prior to that game with the Wasps, Hoover, Druffel, Chelsea Tyler and Dyllan Peterson will be honored as part of Senior Day.
