WildCats Fall to EMU 82-61

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball team outscored its opponents in the second half on Saturday, but it was not enough as Eastern Mennonite University defeated the 'Cats 82-61 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

EMU came out very strong in the first period, controlling the initial six minutes of the game.  Hope Randolph made a jumper shortly after to put the score at 16-5 with 3:52 remaining in the period.  The teams traded baskets, as Abigail Bullins and Korin Harris scored for the WildCats, while Shaneyea Conwell and Sa'Mone Moore answered on the other end.  The Royals then came back with four in a row, but Harris finished off the first with a strong layup, marking the scoreboard at 24-11.

Eastern Mennonite started the second off with a 10-4 run to extend its advantage.  Hope Randolph came down and converted a layup, and it was followed shortly after by a shot from Alexis Calloway.  But EMU made three-straight from long range, and added another one following a Bullins layup.  Both teams scored from close in the final minute to send the Royals into the half with a 48-23 lead.

The teams exchanged baskets coming out of the intermission, before EMU pushed the advantage out with a small run.  The teams went back and forth once again, until Hope Randolph knocked down a jumper with 3:06 remaining.  After a turnover on the other end, Hope Randolph took a pass from Bullins and made the shot from beyond the three-point line.  Eastern Mennonite made a jump shot, but the WildCats scored six in-a-row to end the period.  Harris made two tough shots, while Jacqueline Hockman added two from the charity stripe.

The fourth quarter went back and forth throughout.  Bullins hit two shots from behind the arc, as well as a late layup through a lot of traffic.  Harris put in six during the period and Hockman added four.  However, it was not enough as the Royals left with the victory.

Harris tied her career-high, scoring a game-high 18 points.  Bullins finished the game with 14, while Hockman contributed 10.  Harris also pulled in a team-high seven rebounds.  The 'Cats shot 48.5% in the second half.  Lindsey Krisak led three Royals (6-2 overall, 1-1 ODAC) in double-figures.  Myneshia Walker and Jess Rheinheimer tallied 15 and 10 respectively.

Randolph (0-6, 0-2) heads on the road for one game next week.  The WildCats will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet (0-2) on Tuesday night.  The game will begin at 7 p.m.
