Women's Basketball Sets Program Record for Largest Win in Moving to 10-1

Box Score

STAUNTON, Va. -- Randolph was superb on both sides of the ball today in a record-setting 81-25 win over Mary Baldwin today, pushing Randolph to 10-1.

The 56 points breaks the record for largest margin of victory in program history, as Randolph gave up its fewest points since 1997 in the tilt.

The win gives Randolph its seventh straight win, extending its program record, and pulls within one win of the program's record for wins in a season, set last season.

In addition, this marks the first time in program history that Randolph has consecutive double-digit win seasons.

Randolph led wire-to-wire today, as senior Jensen Hoover scored off of the tip, starting a 6-0 run to open the game.

Later in the period, Randolph had runs of 12-0 and 11-0, holding the Fighting Squirrels to just one field goal over a span of 9:25.

Randolph took a 45-14 edge into halftime, which is the largest halftime lead the team has posted since complete period-by-period records were made available in 1999.

Another 12-point spurt opened the second half well for Randolph, as the WildCats cruised, later using a 17-0 run to improve the lead even more.

Overall, it was an extremely balanced effort for Randolph, as 13 players scored, with eight tallying at least five points.

Randolph held a 55-0 edge in bench points on the day.

Sophomore Brie Holdren led the way with 15 points, while classmate Korin Harris had a dozen.

Sophomore Darian Thornton and first-year Alexis Calloway each pulled down eight boards, while Holdren had seven.

Defensively, Randolph allowed only nine made field goals while forcing 35 turnovers, as four WildCats had three steals.

The 25 points allowed is the fewest the team has conceded since 1997 and the fifth-fewest in program history.

The WildCats will have a crack at tying the program record for wins in a season on Wednesday, when they host Shenandoah at 7 p.m.
