Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Facing the defending conference champions and current top seed, Randolph held its own before coming up short to Randolph-Macon.
In the 73-53 decision, Randolph-Macon held off Randolph's second half charge to sustain the victory.
Leading the WildCats was senior Jensen Hoover, who became the fifth player in program history with at least 15 rebounds in a single game, pulling down six of her 15 rebounds on the offensive glass.
Starting the contest, layups by Hoover and sophomore Brie Holdren early leveled the game at 4-4 before first-year Taylor Samuels completed the 6-0 run to put Randolph up in the opening stages.
A 13-0 Yellow Jacket run followed, however, putting the guests up for good.
For the remainder of the first half, the teams split scoring plays, with the WildCats cutting the lead to nine or 10 multiple times, but the Yellow Jackets taking their largest lead of the half, 15, into intermission.
That lead quickly became 19 out of the break, but Randolph scored the next eight to make the deficit just 11, as first-year Alexis Calloway capped the spurt with four straight points.
A three by junior Abigail Bullins and a layup by senior Dyllan Peterson shortly thereafter made the lead nine, but once again Randolph-Macon answered to get back up by double digits.
Any Randolph basket over the last few minutes was answered by the Yellow Jackets, as the visitors pulled down 26 offensive rebounds to keep the ball away from the WildCats in their comeback attempt.
Calloway and Bullins each had 10 points to lead the team, while Hoover's 15 boards tied her for game high honors with R-MC's Katie Anderson, who earned her 10th double-double of the season.
Randolph will try to get back in the win column on Saturday against Hollins. Earlier this season, the WildCats dispatched of Hollins, 57-50 in a matchup at the RAD Center.
