Randolph Drops Cross-Town Women's Basketball Tilt at Lynchburg

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph will have to wait at least four more days to break the program record for wins after a loss at Lynchburg this evening, 72-53.

Randolph was doomed by a size disadvantage that allowed Lynchburg to pull down 22 offensive rebounds, earning 28 second chance points.

First-year Alexis Calloway opened strongly in her first career start, scoring Randolph's first four points to get Randolph out to an edge early.

Randolph's offense sputtered thereafter, however, allowing Lynchburg to get ahead.

Making her return to the lineup, junior Abigail Bullins scored eight straight Randolph points in 61 seconds to give the WildCats a spark.

Lynchburg found an answer however, using a strong run to end the first half and another to open up a lead early in the second.

Randolph went on an 11-2 run in response, including six straight free throws from senior Chelsea Tyler.

Tyler finished 11-of-12 from the line for all 11 of her points.

Her 11 made free throws is tied for sixth-most in program history for a single game and the best free throw percentage (91.7%) of any player in program history with more than 10 attempts.

Another 9-2 run pulled Randolph within single digits, but the Hornets held off a late charge to hold on for the victory.

Bullins led Randolph with 16 points, while senior Jensen Hoover's seven rebounds was a team high.

The WildCats get another crack at the program record for wins in a season at the alma mater of head coach Allison Nichols, Bridgewater, on Saturday.
