Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph bested Hollins this evening, 57-50, opening the season 6-1 for the first time in program history.
After tying a program record last season with a 5-0 start, the team is 6-1 for the first time ever, besting the team's previous best record through seven games of 5-2.
In a defensive affair, Randolph held Hollins to just seven made field goals in the first half as the lead changed hands three times and was tied thrice.
Randolph held Hollins to just one field goal over a 6:10 span in the frame, turning a one point deficit into an eight point lead in that span on a 13-4 run.
The WildCats grew their six-point halftime cushion to a lead as large as 10 early in the second half, but a 7-0 spurt over 5:59 cut the lead to a single possession.
Consecutive layups from junior Abigail Bullins increased Randolph's lead twice when Hollins got within four, the second of which keyed an 8-0 run which also included a basket by sophomore Brie Holdren and a pair of layups by first-year Taylor Samuels.
Another 7-0 run by Hollins in the closing minutes cut the Randolph lead back down to four with 47 seconds left, but Bullins nailed a pair of free throws to give the hosts some cushion.
After a three on the next Hollins possession, Bullins was once again fouled and once again was true from the charity stripe, making the lead five.
Sophomore Jacqueline Hockman later iced the game with two of her own from the line, giving the game its final scoreline.
Bullins and Samuels were the two WildCats in double figures, scoring 13 and 12, respectively.
"Our posts are really good at setting screens and getting open when the guards drive and sealing so we can get easy layups," Bullins said of her key baskets. "I couldn't do it without them."
"Playing at home is always a good thing. We love the crowd to come out and the cheerful environment," she continued. "It's always good to start out winning and hopefully we can carry it over."

Senior Jensen Hoover had eight points to go with her game-high nine rebounds. She also blocked three shots.
The WildCats held Hollins to just 27.0% from the floor in the contest, as the guests made just nine two point baskets on the night.
For official record-keeping purposes, this game will be counted as a non-conference tilt, despite both teams playing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Their ODAC-sanctioned date is January 31 at Hollins.
Randolph next makes trips to Meredith and Averett before returning home on Dec. 22 against Frostburg St.
