Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- Randolph is 7-1 in women's basketball play for
the first time ever, as the WildCats earned a 80-74 victory Friday
evening over Meredith.
The WildCats never trailed, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead
behind three points apiece from sophomore Jacqueline
Hockman and first-year Taylor
Samuels, keeping Meredith off the scoreboard for the
first 3:51 of the contest.
Seven straight points from junior Abigail
Bullins stretched Randolph's first half lead to double
digits and layups from senior Jensen
Hoover on the last play of the first half and the
first play of the second half give Randolph its largest lead of the
game, 23, seconds into the second stanza.
Randolph had a seemingly comfortable lead of 15 with 3:56 to go,
but a quick 7-0 run by Meredith cut the lead to eight with 2:16
left before Hockman hit a free throw to break up the momentum.
The Avenging Angels locked down on defense again, however, using
another spurt to cut the lead to just three with 41 seconds
left.
Out of a timeout, senior Chelsea
Tyler was fouled and hit one of her two attempts to
make the lead two possessions once again.
Tyler's biggest play, however, was yet to come. Off of a missed
layup on the next Meredith possession, Tyler pulled down the
crucial defense rebound.
With the ball and a four point lead, Hockman and Bullins both
hit from the charity stripe down the stretch to give the WildCats
the hard-fought win.
Bullins led the way with 22 points, followed by 12 from Hoover
and 10 from Hockman.
The WildCats shot 50.9% from the floor on 28-of-55 shooting.
Bullins took all five shots from three for the WildCats on the day,
hitting four for an 80% clip.
Randolph has a week off before traveling to Averett on Dec. 20,
seeking to match the program's longest winning streak of five games
and continue its record start.
