Box Score SALEM, Va. -- Randolph came out hot, but could not hold off the potent Roanoke offense, falling in ODAC action, 75-63.
Junior Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, Va./Central) and senior Emilee Dunton (Forest, Va./Brookville) helped Randolph (8-8, 2-5 ODAC) off to a 5-0 lead, eventually growing an edge as large as 11-4.
A 9-0 run would put Roanoke (8-7, 4-3) ahead, as the Maroons grew that lead as large as 32 by midway through the second half.
The WildCats would not go away, however, using a 27-7 run to get back within 12, but could not make a final surge over the last few minutes to get back level.
A major factor in the contest was rebounding, as Randolph, who came into the game tops in the ODAC in rebounding, was bested on the glass by the hosts.
Randoph had higher percentages from the field, from three and from the free throw line, but conceded 21 offensive rebounds.
That edge, as well as Randolph's 22 turnovers, allowed Roanoke to attempt 19 more field goals, aiding in the victory.
Sophomore Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro) led Randolph with 20 points, while Hoover was one of four players to earn game-high honors in rebounding, with six. Dunton had 15 points.
The WildCats return to action on Saturday at 4:30 as the second half of a double-header at the RAD Center.
