Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va.-- Randolph is enjoying its best start in almost two decades and on the right end of its ODAC opener for the first time since 1997-98.
In tonight's 71-58 win over Washington & Lee (1-2, 0-1 ODAC), Randolph (3-0, 1-0 ODAC) earned its first 1-0 ODAC record in 16 years.
The WildCats, who came in trailing for a total of only 18 seconds in the first two games combined, trailed halfway through the first half before first-year Brie Holdren (Bedford, Va./Staunton River) gave the team lead it would hold through four minutes of the second period.
After a pair of buckets put the Generals up by one, sophomore Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro) hit from long range 11 seconds later to take the lead for good.
Bullins repaid the assist from senior Emilee Dunton (Forest, Va./Brookville) the next time down, setting up her backcourt-mate for a three of her own to grow the lead.
After that point, only once was the lead cut back to a single possession, but it was another Holdren three that stopped that General run.
"Guard-wise, we're stepping up and hitting shots when we're open and we're sharing the ball well," head coach Allison Nichols said. "That's back-to-back-games with 20 assists and it's great to see that balance."
Eight players had assists, led by five from Dunton and Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, Va./Henrico).
Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, Va./Central), who entered the game shooting 87.5% from the floor, actually found a way to improve on her league-leading shooting percentage before her final shot went awry, leaving the junior at a still-impressive 8-for-10.
She finished with 20 points, one shy of the career mark she set in the opener, and 10 rebounds.
It is the forward's second career double-double, with the other coming last time these two competed.
"Jensen has been playing great for us. She's doing a great job getting out in transition and finishing under the basket," Nichols said. "She is also doing a great job on the boards."
"Really, we've had a great effort from all of our post players," she continued. "Allie Druffel (Centreville. Va./Westfield) and Korin Harris (Brandywine, Md./Elizabeth Seton) have knocked on the door of a double-double a few times, so the three of them are playing very well."
Druffel had a team-high 11 rebounds, while Harris was just one point shy of a double-double with 10 boards.
"Starting off 3-0 gives us a lot of confidence and momentum going forth. Getting a big ODAC win to start the ODAC season is huge and will certainly serve us well later in the season."
Randolph finishes off its homestand with a matchup with Goucher on Saturday at 2 p.m.
