Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – Eastern Mennonite University put three players in double figures and out-rebounded the Randolph College women's basketball team 52-32 in as the WildCats fell to EMU 63-47 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.
The contest was slow to get started, as the teams combined for 15 points over the first eight minutes. EMU (7-5/3-1 ODAC) went on a 7-0 run to push its lead to 14-7 before Randolph (3-8/1-3 ODAC) junior Emilee Dunton (Forest, VA/Brookville) made a lay-up to stop the Eastern Mennonite spurt. EMU would up its lead to 11, but Dunton answered with a three right before the half to make the score 29-21 at the half.
The Royals would slowly pull away in the second half, leading by as much as 16 in earning the conference victory. Dunton finished with a game-high 15 points, as she made six-of-13 from the floor including three-of-six from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore Bri Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon) scored nine points and had three assists, and Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) added eight points and three steals.
Randolph shot 32.1 percent from the floor, making 18 of its 56 shots from the field. The WildCats also knocked down six-of-18 (33.3 percent) from downtown, and five-of-10 from the line. Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) posted six points and six rebounds as well, and Olivia Johnson (Monroe, NC/Union Academy) had a team-high seven boards.
EMU was paced by the 14 points and nine rebounds from reserve Shakeerah Sykes. Sykes made all six field goals, as seven of her nine caroms came off of the offensive glass. First-year Jess Rheinheimer had 11 points and nine rebounds, making all seven shots from the line, and Kayla Baltimore had 11 points and five rebounds.
The Royals grabbed 27 offensive rebounds in the game, and had 21 second chance points on the afternoon. EMU also outscored Randolph 34-20 in the paint, and posted a 24-7 edge in points off turnovers.
The WildCats will finish their five-game home stand on Tuesday evening as the Quakers of Guilford College come to Lynchburg for a 7 p.m. tip-off in the RAD Center.
