Randolph Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest At Bridgewater Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, VA -- Bridgewater senior guard Jessica Mullen scored a game-high 28 points in leading the Eagles to a 71-58 victory over the Randolph College women's basketball team in action from Nininger Hall Saturday.

Randolph (3-10/1-5 ODAC) led early on with scores of 2-0 and 4-2, but the host Eagles scored the game's next nine points to take a 11-4 edge at 13:23 of the first half. BC was up 21-7 before the WildCats put together a 11-2 spurt to put to within five at 23-18. Bridgewater would eventually head into the intermission with a seven-point lead, as Mullen paced all scorers with 16 points.

The WildCats trimmed the lead down to six 2:06 into the second stanza, but would only hit three field goals over the next eight minutes as Bridgewater built a 54-38 advantage. Randolph pulled to within nine with 1:43 left in the game on a pair of Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, NC/Asheboro) free throws but would get no closer.

Bullins paced the WildCats offensively, scoring 14 points off the bench. Bullins finished with four three-pointers as well as three assists. Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) registered 10 points, making five of her six field goal attempts.

Junior Emilee Dunton (Forest, VA/Brookville) added six points and six rebounds for the WildCats, who shot 21-of-59 on the afternoon. Randolph did shoot well from the line, capitalizing on 11 of the 13 opportunities from the charity stripe.

Mullen scored her game-high of 28 points after making nine-of-18, including three of her five attempts from deep. She added eight steals, seven rebounds and two assists as well. Shannan Thorne scored 10 points to go with six rebounds, and Katelynn Hottinger came off the bench for a 14 point, 12 rebound double-double.

Bridgewater held a slight 40-38 rebounding edge, but shot 29 free throws during the contest, making 24 (82.8 percent). BC also forced Randolph into 26 turnovers on the afternoon.

Randolph will be back in action this Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Washington and Lee University for more Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
