Second Half Run By Lynchburg Dooms Randolph Women in 75-53 Loss Friday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball team trailed by only six points early in the second half, but Lynchburg College went on a 23-9 run over the next 10 minutes of the game to pull away in taking the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) battle 75-53 Friday night from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.

The win for Lynchburg was its first ODAC win of the season, as the Hornets moved to 2-8 and 1-4 in the league. Randolph drops to 3-7 and 0-5 in the conference. The first half was tight as Randolph took its only lead of the game at 4-3 thanks to a lay-up by first-year Bri Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon).

Lynchburg took the lead back for good on the next play, though the WildCats kept it within single digits for the entire first half, as LC took a 34-27 lead into break. After Randolph got a three-pointer from Lauren French (Blairs, VA/Chatham) to make it a six-point game, LC went on an 8-2 run to up the lead to 12.

The Hornets would slowly build the lead to as much as 24 with 17 seconds left after a lay-up from sophomore Julia Scales, eventually taking the contest by 22. Randolph was paced by the 14 points from Lowry, as she made six-of-16 from the field to go with four boards and four assists. French had a solid game as well, hitting three trifectas for 11 points as well as grabbing seven rebounds.

First-year Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) posted a career-high 11 rebounds for Randolph, and Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) had eight points. Fellow newcomer Dyllan Peterson (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) delivered six points and four rebounds off the bench for Randolph, which shot 29.2 percent (19-65) from the floor.

The visiting Hornets were led by first-year Shannon Allan, who had 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Roslyn Alexander had a game-high 16 points for LC, while Katie Crump and Shea Kelley had 12 and 11 points, respectively. Lynchburg shot seven-of-15 from downtown (46.7 percent), and also forced Randolph into 23 turnovers.

Randolph will continue its seven-game homestand Tuesday evening with a ODAC contest against the Quakers of Guilford College at 7 p.m. in the RAD Center.
