Randolph College Women's Basketball Plays Well But Falls to Hollins 72-59

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball set a season-low of turning the ball over only nine times but got out-rebounded 62-33 as Hollins University earned a 72-59 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over the WildCats Saturday afternoon.

The nine turnovers bested the previous low for Randolph of 16, which the WildCats had Tuesday evening against Roanoke College. The total was also the fewest a Randolph squad has committed in a game since December 4, 2004 against Emory & Henry College, a span of 154 games.

Randolph (3-15/0-13 ODAC) fell behind early as Hollins jumped out to a 12-4 lead. The WildCats responded with a 12-4 run to trim the advantage to two after a nice turnaround layup from Olivia Johnson (Monroe, NC/Union Academy). The WildCats would get to within one at 5:20 left in the first half, but Hollins (7-10/6-7 ODAC) opened the lead back up, taking a six-point advantage into intermission.

In the second half, HU grews its lead up to eight before the WildCats fought back to trim the advantage to three after a lay-up from Courtney Bouchard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson). HU would go on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes, and slowly built its lead up to as much as 17 in earning the 13-point win.

First-year guard Bri Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon) scored a career-high 17 points on six-of-14 shooting, making five free throws as well. Bouchard finished with 10 points, while Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) added eight points and seven rebounds. First-year Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) continued her to show her passing prowess, dishing out five assists on the game.

Hollins was paced by the three double-doubles from Lauren Morris, Jasmine Greene and Lacie Forrest. Forrest finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Morris added 18 points and 12 boards and Greene registered 18 points and 11 caroms. Hollins grabbed 62 rebounds on the night, 22 coming on the offensive side of the floor.

Randolph will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the WildCats head outside the Commonwealth to take on Guilford College at 7 p.m. in Ragan-Brown Field House in Greensboro, NC.
