Randolph Women's Basketball Defeated by Eastern Mennonite 79-48

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, VA — Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leading Eastern Mennonite University put three players in double figures and shot 47.4 percent from the field in knocking off the Randolph College women's basketball team in league play Friday evening.

Randolph (3-14/0-12 ODAC) had the best shooting night of the season, as the WildCats knocked down 20 of the 46 (43.5 percent) shots they took. Unfortunate, the WildCats turned the ball over 31 times and put EMU (14-1/11-1 ODAC) on the line 28 times.

The WildCats did not go quietly into the night Friday evening, as they led for much of the first half of the opening stanza. Randolph led by as much as eight early on, as Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) put the visitors up 10-2 after four minutes.

EMU would go on a 24-4 run though over the next 11 minutes of the first half, taking its first lead at 11:04 on a three-pointer from Marla Zumfelde. The Lady Royals would continue to add to their advantage, leading by 12 at the half.

In the second half, Randolph pulled to within nine once after a three from Courtney Bouchard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson), but a 12-2 run pushed the lead back up to 19 and out of reach for the WildCats.

Hoover finished with a team-high 10 points for the WildCats, hitting all five shots she took from the field. First-year Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) had four points, five rebounds and six assists for the 'Cats, marking her second six assist game in a row. The back-to-back six assists games was the first time that has happened for a Randolph player since Katie Rechnitzer dished out seven and six in consecutive games in November of 2009.

First-year Bri Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon) had nine points, three assists and three rebounds while Bouchard finished with eight points. Randolph's shooting percentage was nine points higher than its previous high of 34 percent.

Stephanie Rheinheimer had a game-high 18 points for Eastern Mennonite, while super sub Bianca Ygarza was five-of-six from the floor as well as adding seven free throws for 17 points. Kala Yoders added 11 points, five steals and six rebounds for the Lady Royals, who have now won 10 consecutive games.

Randolph will return to the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) center Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as Hollins University comes to town for an ODAC tussle.
