Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — The Randolph College women's basketball team held Roanoke College to only 59 points Tuesday evening but struggled from behind the three-point stripe as the WildCats dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) clash to Roanoke 59-42 from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.
The Maroons (4-10/4-7 ODAC) opened the game on 10-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Laurel Hankins. Randolph would settle in and score eight of the contest's next 10 points to pull to within four after a layup from Bonnie Bishop (Fairfax, VA/Trinity Christian). Roanoke upped its lead back to nine at 26-17, taking a six-point lead into the halftime hiatus.
Randolph pulled to within three shortly into the second half after first-year Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) converted a free throw. Roanoke responded with a 7-0 lead to push the advantage up to 10, and though Randolph would chip into the edge here and there, the Maroons were too strong down the stretch earning the 17-point win.
Bishop played one of her best games of the season, as the first-year guard finished with a career-high 11 points. Though she only shot three-of-eight from the floor, she attacked the rim and earned six free throw attempts, four of which she made. "I feel like when your shots aren't falling, you need to take it to the basket and that's what I did today," said Bishop.
Sophomore Courtney Bouchard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) had seven points in her first start of the season, while first-year guard Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) had a very balanced game with six points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block. Junior Olivia Johnson (Monroe, NC/Union Academy) added four points and five rebounds for Randolph. The WildCats finished 16-57 (28.1 percent) from the floor, but only 16.7 percent from behind the arc.
Roanoke was paced by the double-double from senior center Nicci Moats, who had 15 points and 15 caroms. Hankins had 11 points, while Taylor Duggins had 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Roanoke shot at an even 44 percent for the game, making 22-of-50 from the field. The Maroons also out-rebounded their hosts 45-33.
The WildCats will now head out on the road for a contest at conference leading Eastern Mennonite University Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Harrisonburg, VA.
