Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — The Randolph College women's basketball team had a tough turnaround from Friday night's home contest, having to travel to Emory & Henry College Saturday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tussle. After battling for much of the first half, the host Wasps pulled away for a 71-53 league win over Randolph from the King Center.
Emory & Henry (2-10/1-9 ODAC) jumped out to an early lead, but Randolph earned its first edge at 6-5 after a layup from Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central). EHC scored the next six points to take an 11-6 lead, but Randolph (3-12/0-10 ODAC) went on a huge 18-4 spurt to lead the game by nine at 24-15. Sophomore Courtney Bouchard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) led the surge with eight points for the WildCats.
The WildCats though would go cold over the last eight minutes of the first half, hitting only one shot the rest of the half, a 45-foot three at the buzzer from Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) to put the score at 34-28 in favor of the hosts. In the second half, Randolph got as close as five points early on but a 14-1 run pushed the game out of reach.
Randolph was paced by the 10 points from Bouchard, who finished two-of-four from downtown. Hoover chalked up eight points and 10 rebounds, while Tyler added nine points and three rebounds. First-year guard Bonnie Bishop (Fairfax, VA/Trinity Christian) scored seven points off the bench as Randolph finished 19-of-57 from the field (33.3 percent).
The 53 points for Randolph was its third-highest offensive output of the season, while the 33.3 percent from the floor was the best shooting performance of the season for the WildCats.
Emory & Henry got double-doubles from two players, as Kristie Langley had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Carlyta Hamm added 15 points and 10 boards. Meredith Grant scored 13 points to go with seven caroms as well for EHC, which won the rebounding battle 51-33. Emory & Henry also shot 40 percent (28-70) from the floor.
Randolph will return home Tuesday to take on the Maroons of Roanoke College for the first time this season at 7 p.m. in the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.
