Randolph Women's Basketball Battles But Falls to Guilford College 70-52

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA — Randolph College put three scorers in double figures and held Guilford College to under 75 for the first time November 28 but couldn't overcome 26.9 percent shooting in a 70-52 loss to the conference-leading Quakers Tuesday evening from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.

The WildCats (3-8/0-6 ODAC) played one of their best games, and were in the game for much of the contest. Guilford and Randolph exchanged leads early on, but Randolph took a four-point lead at 14:27 of the first half after a lay-up from Brianna Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon). The WildCat lead got up to five twice before the Quakers went on an 8-0 run to lead 18-15.

Randolph persevered and regained a one-point lead with five minutes left in the half on a jumper from Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central). The high octane Guilford (10-2/7-0 ODAC) offense would reel off 12 of the game's next 14 points to go up by nine, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Kayla Adams. GC would take a 36-26 lead into the break.

Guilford started the half on a 9-2 run to open up a 19-point lead, but the WildCats once again fought back. Randolph trimmed the deficit down to 10 three times throughout the second stanza, but a late run pushed the advantage back up to 20 points and out of reach for Randolph.

Senior guard Lauren French (Blairs, VA/Chatham) shot well from deep for the second straight game, making three-of-six from downtown to finish with a team-high 12 points. First-year center Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) struggled from the field (5-22), but still posted her second career double-double of 11 points and a career-best 15 rebounds.

Lowry finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Hoover had another strong outing with nine points and 11 boards. Randolph outrebounded one of the best rebounding teams in the ODAC 48-45, but 21 turnovers and making only 18-of-67 from the floor hamstrung the WildCats.

The Quakers were led by Gabby Oglesby and her 17 point, seven rebound, and six block effort. Amber Weaver had 14 points in only 11 minutes off the bench, while Adams finished with 11 points. Randolph held Jazlyn Gibbs, Division III's fourth-best three-point shooter, without a three-pointer as she scored just five points. Morgan King had a team-best 10 caroms for GC, which shot 37.9 percent (22-58) from the floor.

Randolph returns to the floor Saturday afternoon against the Generals of Washington & Lee University at 4 p.m. in more league play from the RAD Center.
