Women's Tennis Falls to Washington and Lee in ODAC Semifinals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The No. 4 seeded Randolph College women's tennis team fell, 5-0, to No. 1 seed Washington and Lee University in the semifinal round of the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals swept doubles play as the duo of Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) fell 8-3 in the No. 1 spot while the tandem of Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Savana Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 2. Washington and Lee completed the sweep as Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and Hayley Ashford (Providence Forge, Va./New Kent) fell at No. 3 with a score of 8-0. 

Washington and Lee clinched the match win with two singles victories. Mata fell in the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-1 while Appel dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 4. 

The WildCats conclude the 2019 season with a 12-8 overall record and a 9-3 conference record.
