LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team kicked off its fall campaign by hosting the WildCat Invitational on Saturday, welcoming Bridgewater and Shenandoah for a day of doubles and singles competition.
In doubles action, Mikayla Smith and Lexi Carlsen teamed up for a Randolph victory, defeating a duo from Shenandoah, while Fleur Gaalman and Sophia Cahue picked up a 6-0 win over their Bridgewater opponents. In the second round of doubles, Gaalman and Cahue earned another victory, this time over Shenandoah, while Smith and Carlsen secured their second win of the day with a victory over Bridgewater. Amy Rigg and Maddie Mills also picked up their first doubles win of the day against Bridgewater.
Gaalman continued her strong day in singles, earning a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bridgewater's No. 1 player. Rigg also earned a singles win on the third court against Bridgewater. Grace Jacob added a victory over her Shenandoah opponent on Court 6, winning 7-5, 6-1.
In the second round of singles, Smith earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over her Shenandoah counterpart, while Jacob added another singles win with an 8-0 shutout.
