Randolph Falls to Quakers in ODAC Play

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's basketball team hosted Guilford College on Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tilt.  GC defeated the WildCats 77-60.

The scoring was slow to come by near the start of the game, but Andy Toe and Ryan Fields made early shots to stake the 'Cats to a 4-0 lead.  The Quakers responded with six-straight, taking the lead at 14:48.  For the next two minutes, the teams exchanged points.  Chase VanHorn tied the score, and after a Marcus Curry layup.  Drew Hayden then took the lead at 9-8 with a three.

Curry started a run for the visitors, scoring five.  His teammate PJ Stephens added two makes from behind the arc, answering a deep three from Colton Lee.  Toe followed the second with a tough layup, but Stephens hit one more, to bring the visitors advantage to 22-14.

After a timeout, points were traded once again.  Fields responded twice tao the Quakers, tallying the first four, before Reid Jacoby added seven, including a long three. It kept the deficit at eight with four minutes to play.  Guilford tallied the next three points, but Jeremiah Davis answered with a close shot.  Following three more from the visitors, Fields drilled a shot from behind the arc.  GC hit a late jumper, but Jacoby hit his second from behind the arc, notching the score at 41-33 entering the half.

Randolph came out of the break strong, with Toe hitting a nice hook and Jacoby making an acrobatic layup.  The baskets brought the margin to only four, as the defense kept the visitors off the scoreboard.  However, Curry got the team going, scoring six-straight and pushing the lead back to 10.  It extended to 12, but Jacoby and Davis answered to bring things to only eight points.

Things went back and forth, which included a Fields traditional three-point play off an inbounds pass from Jacoby.  Following a three from the guests, Lee and Fields combined to cut the score to 56-49 with 11:29 to play.  However, after another exchange, the Quakers extended the advantage to 11.  Davis and Nick Goble answered opponents' baskets, and Lee hit another three to bring the margin to only eight with 3:37 remaining.  But Guilford made its free throws, and sealed the win.

Fields led the WildCats with 19 points.  Jacoby added 14, while assisting on eight more baskets.  That amount puts him at 199 for his career, which helps him move into fifth-place on the all-time list.  Curry finished with game-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds for GC (12-2 overall, 5-0 ODAC).

Randolph (4-10, 1-4) will head back on the road this weekend.  The team will travel up 501 to take on Washington and Lee University (6-8, 2-3) on Saturday, with tip-off set for 4:30 p.m.
