Singles Step Up Big, but Randolph Men's Tennis Just Misses Comeback

SALEM, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis team dropped its doubles matches, but the WildCats made a great showing in singles, before falling to Roanoke College 5-4, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

All of the doubles matches were close.  JT von Seggern and Dario Schiano-Moriello teamed at number one as always, but the pair dropped after winning four games.  Q Manglapus and Trevor Johnson worked together at three, and fell in the same score as the top team.  Bradley Strober and Doug Corbett once again worked at number two.  The two made a great comeback attempt, but it came up short taking five games.

Once the doubles ended, the 'Cats picked up their efforts.  Strober got things going at number one, not giving up a set.  He won 6-4, 6-4.  Schiano-Moriello was dominant as well at number six.  He gave up only four total games on the way to the win.

Manglapus, Corbett, and von Seggern all needed tiebreaks to decide their matches.  Manglapus won his first set in a battle, 7-5.  He dropped his second, before doubling up his counterpart at number four, 10-5 for the win.  Corbett followed a similar pattern at number five.  He won 6-4 in the first set, before losing the second.  Corbett then won the match with a 10-6 victory.  However, von Seggern could not pull off the same magic, as he fell in the third set.  Johnson fell in his match at number three.

Randolph (6-3 overall, 1-2 ODAC) returns home on Saturday to take on Emory & Henry College.  The 1 p.m. match will also serve as the Cancer Awareness match for the 'Cats.
