LYNCHBURG, Va. - On Monday, the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State honors were announced.
Jacob Martin was named to the All-State First Team Singles, and
Andreas Mulner was named to the All-State Second Team Singles. The pair also accumulated All-State First Team Doubles.
Martin was 16-5 overall in singles play and 5-2 in conference matches. He had a 10-4 record at first singles and was 2-0 at second singles. Martin had a torrid start to his season as he won 11 of his first 12 matches, with his only setback being a super tiebreaker loss to Stevens' Max-William Kanz at ITA Regionals. He was named the ODAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 23 after winning both of his singles matches to run his winning streak to eight, and also won it on November 3 after a pair of wins at the WildCat Invitational. He was also named to the All-ODAC Second Team at first singles. In the final ITA rankings, Martin ranked 17th in the Atlantic South and was then selected as a singles alternate for the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships.
Mulner went 17-7 overall in singles play with a 4-0 record at first singles and a 12-3 record at second singles. He matched the Randolph single-season wins record that he set last year. Mulner was a perfect 8-0 in ODAC play. He was named the ODAC Singles Player of the Week on October 27. He was also named to the All-ODAC First Team at second singles.
Martin and Mulner also earned All-State First Team Doubles. The pair were 13-9 overall and 4-4 in the ODAC. They had a 7-6 victory over Second Teams Henry Imorde and Heys Parker from W&L in the ODAC semifinals, which was their second win over the duo this season. The pair were named ODAC Doubles Team of the Week on October 27. They advanced to the Round of 16 at ITA Regionals back in October. The duo was also named to the All-ODAC First Team Doubles for the second straight season.
