LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced it's All-Conference Team in Men's Tennis on Wednesday afternoon. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) and Aksel-Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) were named to the First Team for singles while Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Vincenzo Marchese were named to the Second Team. In addition, Martin and Mulner were named to the First Team for doubles.
The five total All-Conference selections are the most for the WildCats in program history. "Having four of our six guys in singles earn All-ODAC honors is a great achievement and one that feels validating for how hard our team worked this season," said head coach Sam Martinez.
Mulner went 17-7 overall in singles play with a 4-0 record at #1 singles and 12-3 record at #2 singles. He matched the Randolph single season wins record that he set last year. Mulner was a perfect 8-0 in ODAC play. He was named the ODAC Singles Player of the Week on October 27.
Tinnes-Rimehaug posted a 13-7 singles record in his first season with the WildCats playing primarily at fourth singles. He was 6-2 in conference play. He was the last match to complete in the ODAC quarterfinals against Virginia Wesleyan and his defeat of Sebastien Muller clinched the victory for the 'Cats.
Martin was 15-5 overall in singles play and 5-2 in conference matches. He had a 10-4 record at first singles and was 2-0 at second singles. Martin had a torrid start to his season as he won 11 of his first 12 matches with his only setback a super tiebreaker loss to Stevens' Max-William Kanz at ITA Regionals. He was named the ODAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 23 after winning both of his singles matches to run his winning streak to eight and also won it on November 3 after a pair of wins at the WildCat Invitational. In the recent ITA rankings, Martin is 16th in the Atlantic South and was selected as a singles alternate for the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships.
Marchese went 15-6 in singles play and was 13-3 at #3 singles. He had a 6-1 record in ODAC play. He won four of his last five matches of the season including the only singles match victory for Randolph in the ODAC Semifinals against Washington and Lee.
This is the second straight season Martin and Mulner have earned First Team Doubles honors and the third straight season for Martin. The pair were 13-9 overall and 4-4 in the ODAC. They had a 7-6 victory over Second Teamers Henry Imorde and Heys Parker from W&L in the ODAC semifinals which was their second win over the duo this season. The pair were named ODAC Doubles Team of the Week on October 27. They advanced to the Round of 16 at ITA Regionals back in October.
"For Jacob and Andreas to get First Team Doubles is awesome too with everything they went through the spring in so many big matches that could have gone either way, " said Martinez.
