Men's Tennis has Solid Performance at Methodist Invite

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Randolph WildCats men's tennis team opened its fall season at the Methodist University Invite, boosted by a semifinal run from Tom Laflamme and a championship appearance in doubles.

Laflamme, the No. 4 seed in Flight 5, put together Randolph's strongest singles run of the weekend. After rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, (10-7) opening-round win, Laflamme defeated the flight's No. 2 seed 6-3, 6-3 to reach the championship match. After battling through the heat and a demanding weekend of matches, Laflamme was forced to withdraw from the final.

Team captain Jacob Martin, the No. 3 seed in the event's highest singles flight, opened with a 6-3, 6-1 victory before falling to the No. 2 seed 2-6, 4-6 in the semifinals.

Nolan Dubay, Dylan Hurley, and Porter Frigerio made their WildCat debuts. Dubay faced the No. 1 seed in Flight 4 and put together a strong showing despite falling 2-6, 3-6, while Hurley and Frigerio also battled in their opening matches. Senior Nate Quisbert fell just short in a three-set tiebreak, 6-4, 2-6, (8-10).

In doubles, Martin and Laflamme earned a 7-5 victory after opening against the No. 1 seed in the highest flight. Dubay and Hurley also impressed in their debut, winning 6-1 as the No. 2 seed in Flight 3 before falling 4-6 in the second round.

Quisbert and Frigerio made the deepest doubles run, advancing to the championship match after a walkover and second-round victory before falling in a tiebreak, 6-6 (4-10).

Coaches Johnson and Quadri played key roles throughout the weekend, with Quadri specifically helping guide Laflamme through his semifinal victory.

The men get a nice break before competing in the ITA Fall Regionals. Times and location to be announced shortly.
