Corbett's Win Breaks Tie in Record-Setting Men's Tennis Marathon

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph and Roanoke battled for five hours over two venues, but the WildCats stole a 5-4 win.

With the teams tied at 4-4, sophomore Doug Corbett won at No. 5 singles to give Randolph the win.

With the win, Randolph has its longest winning streak in program history (5), is now one win shy of the program record for wins in a season (7) and has its best start in program history (6-4).

The match started on Randolph's campus on the tennis courts, but finished at The Sports Racket across town after rain and darkness caused delays.

All three doubles matches were decided by scores of 8-5, with Randolph taking two of three.

Sophomore Dario Schiano-Moriello and senior Daniil Lyalko fell at No. 1 doubles, but No. 2 and No. 3 both won.

Sophomores JT von Seggern and Trevor Johnson were winners at second doubles, as were Corbett and first-year Bradley Strober at third.

In singles play, Strober fell at No. 1 in straight sets, while von Seggern won, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2.

Lyalko rallied to force a super-tiebreaker at No. 3, but fell after winning the second set.

Johnson won the first set of his fourth singles match, but dropped the second. He won his super-tiebreaker, 10-4, to win, however.

Schiano-Moriello fell at No. 6, setting up the final match.

With both teams sitting on four points, Corbett won it for Randolph with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

The win is Randolph's sixth of the year, which is one shy of last year's record-setting seven.

The WildCats broke the record set in 2011 of three wins in a row with the win and have now posted a winning record in April for the first time ever.

Randolph has a chance to tie the program record for wins in a year next Friday at Randolph-Macon.
