Randolph Earns Split With Ferrum in Regular Season Softball Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- In the final playoff tune-up for the WildCats, Randolph earned a split on Tuesday against Ferrum.

Randolph won game one, 5-2, but dropped game two, 9-6.

Junior Jessica Nowak got the WildCats on the scoreboard in a three-run first inning by tripling in first-year Haley Brickles, coming around herself on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Hunter Glavé.

Junior Rachel Hickman added another run that inning with a single to right, driving in first-year Brittany Campbell.

Ferrum scored one in the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the lead to just 3-2, but Randolph added two insurance runs in the sixth.

Senior Patti Vinson hit a clutch pinch-hit single to right-center to bring in first-year Rebecca Montgomery to double the lead and Glavé added another run by driving in Brickles.

Junior pitcher Hannah Winfree wouldn't need the extra support, however, pitching a complete game to earn the win.

In game two, Randolph scored first again, as Vinson brought home Campbell in the first.

Ferrum rallied for four in response in the second, but Randolph got two back in the bottom of the frame on singles by senior Haleigh Wilson and sophomore Ashley Dudding, bringing around first-years Lauren Morris and Jordyn Knapp.

Ferrum scored the next three, but Glavé lined a home run down the right field line to bring around Brickles and cut the lead.

Campbell doubled in Nowak in the sixth, but the WildCats could not pull level.

Randolph has concluded the regular season, but will begin ODAC tournament play on Friday. Randolph is tied for the seventh-best record with Eastern Mennonite but look to be destined for the No. 8 seed based on tiebreaker.

The ODAC office will release official pairings at the conclusion of the final games of league play.
