LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph has won seven of eight in women's tennis after today's 7-2 win over Guilford.
The team wore pink shirts and accessories and had pink ball markers on the score keepers in honor of Pink Day for Breast Cancer Awareness, part of Randolph's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee initiative to raise funds and awareness.
Randolph took a sweep in doubles action.
Junior Dina Velazco and sophomore Jenna Sweet opened the day with an 8-5 win as a pair.
Junior Sarah Parker and sophomore Heather Parra were victorious, 8-2 at No. 2.
At No. 3 doubles, seniors Danielle Lewis and Tiandre Forde cruised, 8-1.
Each of the six singles matches were completed in 18 games or fewer and all were straight sets.
Velazco's 6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 1 was the only match where both players won at least five games.
At No. 2, Parker won 6-2, 6-2, while Sweet won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
Sweet has won all 10 matches in singles play this year.
Parra won, 6-2, 6-1 and Lewis fell, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Closing out singles play, Forde won one-and-love at No. 6.
On Sunday, Randolph goes to Randolph-Macon at 1 p.m., to complete Friday's rescheduled affair.
