Men's Tennis Sees Improvement But Drops Nailbiter, 5-4 to Bridgewater

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- After earning the first-ever point against Bridgewater last year, Randolph earned four, but came up just short.

After falling, 9-0, in each of the first six matchups between these teams, Randolph earned its first point ever against the Eagles in a 5-1 defeat in 2014.

Daniil Lyalko and Doug Corbett teamed up for a doubles win in that match, and the team used that momentum to take another step forward Friday.

It didn't take long to match that total, as Corbett teamed up with sophomore classmate Trevor Johnson to take the No. 3 doubles match, 8-4.

Lyalko and sophomore Dario Schiano-Moriello fell at No. 1, while first-year Bradley Strober and sophomore JT von Seggern dropped No. 2.

Strober won 7-6 (6), 6-1 at top singles to become the first WildCat ever with a singles win over Bridgewater.

von Seggern, Lyalko and Johnson fell at the next three positions, however, giving Bridgewater the victory.

Corbett and Schiano-Moriello helped close the day strongly, however, for the WildCats.

On adjacent courts, the duo each one their singles matches in straight sets to give Randolph four total points.

Corbett won 6-1, 6-4 and Schiano-Morielleo won 6-2, 6-1.

Randolph is next in action Sunday at Ferrum.
