JT von Seggern Makes History Against Nationally-Ranked Washington and Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Randolph's spring opener brought a steep test. as men's tennis squared off with 33-time ODAC champion Washington and Lee.

The Generals, ranked No. 34 in the nation, ultimately took the match, 8-1, but the story for Randolph was the victory by JT von Seggern at third singles.

The sophomore took the first set over Joe Siami, 6-1, but fell in the following frame, 4-6.

In the super-tiebreaker, von Seggern proved victorious, 10-6, giving Randolph its first-ever point against W&L and the first-ever point against a nationally ranked program.

Last year, in 13 matches against ODAC foes, the Generals only lost four individual matches all year on their way to the NCAA second round.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Doug Corbett nearly doubled Randolph's total, but ultimately fell, 10-4, in the super-tiebreaker.

First-year Bradley Strober and senior Daniil Lyalko fell at No. 1 and No. 2, sophomore Trevor Johnson dropped No. 4 and sophomore Dario Schiano-Moriello fought hard before falling at sixth singles.

In doubles, Lyalko/Schiano-Moriello fell, 8-3 at No. 1 and von Seggern/Strober did the same at second doubles.

Corbett/Johnson were swept at third doubles.

On Wednesday, Randolph will travel to Hampden-Sydney for another conference match.
