Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Strong defense helped Randolph's transition offense light up the scoreboard this afternoon in an 86-74 win over Roanoke.
The WildCats shot 55.4% on the day from the floor and hit 14-of-26 from three (54.8%).
In a 21-5 run over 4:24 in the second half, Randolph took the lead thanks to shooting seven of eight, all of which were three point attempts.
Four WildCats scored 15 or more points on the day as juniors Corey Brown (22), Seth Wimbish (19), Jason Eddie (16) and Zach Desgain (15) all reached or exceeded that plateau.
A speedy first half featured six lead changes as the teams exchanged baskets early.
Trailing 10-6, Randolph rattled off 11 straight points, with Eddie hitting a three and Wimbish going on a personal 8-0 run on a layup and two threes.
Randolph grew a lead as large as nine in the first half, but a 15-5 run to close the half gave Roanoke the lead at intermission, 40-39.
The first 9:51 of the second half was played in a four point window, with Roanoke never trailing, but never leading by more than four.
Down 57-54 with 11:21 left, Randolph caught fire.
Desgain nailed a three to cut the lead to one, then set up first-year Reid Jacoby for another triple to give Randolph the lead.
After a Roanoke basket, Jacoby, in turn, set up Eddie for a three to give Randolph an edge once again.
Desgain once again nailed a shot from deep and then, in response to a Roanoke triple, Jacoby and Brown hit consecutive shots from long range to make the lead nine.
As Randolph held Roanoke to just one field goal over 5:44, the lead grew more as Eddie once again was true from deep, putting Randolph up by double figures.
Over that span of 4:24, Randolph outscored Roanoke 21-5, hitting seven threes on just eight attempts.
The WildCats closed strong, sealing the key ODAC win.
"I think it was all based on preparation," Brown said. "Our offense was based on our defense. We got stops which opened up space int transition."
In addition to their strong scoring numbers, all four double-figure WildCat scorers shot at least 50% from the floor on the day, with all four shooting at least 50% from three as well.
Desgain added another double-double to his resume, pulling down 10 rebounds.
Randolph's 14 threes is the third-most in program history, short of the 17 set last year on Senior Day against Washington and Lee.
Randolph is back in action on Wednesday, as the WildCats host Emory and Henry at 7 p.m.
