Box Score 2 NORFOLK, Va. -- Randolph dropped a pair today to the ODAC's top-ranked team in the first day of a back-to-back which will wrap up with Senior Day tomorrow.
Game one was a 9-0 Virginia Wesleyan win, while game two was 5-2.
In game one, first-year Haley Christensen (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) was roughed up early, conceding multiple runs in each of the first three innings in a game that only lasted five innings.
Only junior Patti Vinson (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) got a hit for Randolph in the shortened game.
In game two, Randolph jumped out to an early lead when VIA drove in sophomore Erin Wehrhan (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne). The WildCats missed a chance to break the game open early as two runners were left stranded.
The WildCats conceded four in the bottom of the inning, however, as sophomore Hannah Winfree (Yorktown, Va./York High School) left the bases loaded to keep the 'Cats close.
Neither pitcher faced more than four batters in the next seven half-innings, but Virginia Wesleyan struck for a run in the bottom of the fifth, ending that streak.
In the seventh, Wehrhan drove in junior Haleigh Wilson (Stuart, Va./Patrick County), but the Marlins worked out of trouble to end the game.
The WildCats left a runner on in each of the final three innings.
Winfree falls to 6-1 on the year as she earns her first loss.
The WildCats have a quick turnaround, hosting Randolph-Macon Sunday on Senior Day, starting at 2 p.m.
