LYNCHBURG, Va. -- First-year Jackie Lamberty (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) made a diving catch with the tying run on to finish off a 4-2 win over Lynchburg this afternoon.

Lynchburg had complete control of a game one, winning 10-0 in five innings, but the tides turned in game two.

In the second inning, Randolph junior Patti Vinson (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single up the middle.

Lamberty did the same to double the lead later that inning.

After Lynchburg halved the lead in the third, Randolph got an insurance run in the fourth courtesy of a wild pitch scoring sophomore Hannah Cook (Yorktown, Va./Grafton).

Cook drove in two with a bases loaded single up the middle in the fourth to make the advantage 4-1.

Lynchburg rallied to score one in the sixth and threatened in the seventh.

With the tying run on first and two outs, sophomore Hannah Winfree (Yorktown, Va./York High School) finished off her win with help from her right fielder.

A sinking liner to Lamberty's left looked like trouble, but the rookie made a diving catch on a play that would have certainly tied the game had it not been for her effort.

Winfree, who went the distance, moved to 6-0 on the year and is now in the top 10 in wins, strikeouts and ERA in the ODAC.

"It was a very big win for us," Winfree said after the game. "My teammates played great and we made some big plays."

Randolph has a busy weekend as it travels to Virginia Wesleyan Saturday before hosting Randolph-Macon on senior day on Sunday.
