Wild Sweep Pays Major Dividends for Softball at Roanoke

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- It wasn't easy, but a frantic two-game sweep of Roanoke will greatly help Randolph's playoff chances.

In game one, the WildCats needed 10 innings to earn a crazy 12-11 win.

Sophomore Hannah Winfree (Yorktown, Va./York High School) started both games as pitcher, and went 6.1 innings in game one.

First-year Hunter Glavé (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) saved Winfree from taking a loss, as her two run home run in the final inning forced extras.

Senior Logan Carter (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) took over in the circle and guided Randolph through 3.2 innings to earn the 10-inning victory.

Game two was a little more straightforward, with the WildCats earning their first-ever 10-win ODAC season, 5-0.

Winfree went two innings to start and ceded the rubber to Carter, who earned her second win of the day.

Randolph moves up to 10-6 in ODAC play and has the third-best winning percentage in the league at the moment.

Roanoke, who had a chance to pull level with Randolph, now sits in a four-way tie with six wins in the fight for the final three playoff spots.

Randolph nexts hosts Emory and Henry on "Green Day" for liver cancer awareness on Tuesday.
