Softball Wins Seventh and Eighth Straight Home Games in Salem Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph stayed hot, winning both ends of today's doubleheader.

Sophomore Hannah Winfree (Yorktown, Va./York High School) stepped into the pitcher's circle this afternoon in the first game of today's twin bill and went the distance for the WildCats.

She received help early when senior Brittney Via (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) drove in two runs and came home on a single by junior Patti Vinson (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette).

Salem scored four in the top of the fourth on a single and a bases-clearing double, but sophomore Rachel Hickman (St. Albans, W.V./St. Albans) quickly leveled the score with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame.

Via's double in the fifth put Randolph up again and Winfree helped her own cause with an RBI single.

In the sixth, sophomore Erin Wehrhan (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) scored on a wild pitch before classmate Hannah Cook (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) drove in the team's last run.

In game two, senior Logan Carter (Richmond, Va./Midlothian), fresh off of being named the ODAC's Pitcher of the Week, toed the rubber for the WildCats.

After being spotted a run in the first off a Via single, Carter conceded an unearned run on a pair of errors.

Jessica Nowak (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) drew a throw on a double, allowing Wehrhan to score.

After first-year Hunter Glavé (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) drove in a run on a double, she and Via came around to score when Vinson's liner to shortstop couldn't be corralled.

Salem got one back in the fifth, but Wehrhan and Glavé each brought one WildCat home.

The Spirits got one back in the seventh, but it was too little, too late, as Carter improved to 10-3 on the season.

Glavé had five hits on the day, and now has reached base multiple times in an incredible 11 straight games.

The WildCats are back in action Wednesday in an ODAC matchup at Sweet Briar.
