LYNCHBURG, Va. --On "Teal Day" for ovarian cancer awareness,
Randolph swept its cross-town rival, 9-0.
First-year Alison
Henry (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and
junior Patricia
Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue
Interamericano) were strong at top doubles, earning
an 8-3 win. They were joined by sophomore Sarah
Parker (Washington, D.C. / Sidwell
Friends) and junior Danielle
Lewis (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception)
at No. 3, who also cruised, 8-2.
At second doubles, first-years Jenna
Sweet (Clarksville, Md./Atholton)
and Heather
Parra (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) needed an
extra game to earn a victory, finishing on top, 9-7.
Each of Randolph's singles players was successful in straight
sets, as head coach Jamie Megginson put out her lineup in the
following order: Verdezoto, Henry, Parra, Parker, Sweet, Lewis.
Parker, who was 4-0 on the season, all at No. 6, moved to 5-0 on
the year with the win.
Sweet is now 5-1 this year, all at No. 5.
Randolph will next play Southern Virginia on Tuesday.
Before the match, Randolph wore teal warm-ups in honor of
ovarian cancer awareness. Both tennis teams, as well as both
lacrosse programs and softball, have dedicated one day to promoting
awareness of a cancer that has affected its program. Those
