Randolph Assures Itself a Home ODAC Game With Record Night

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph unofficially has claimed a top-eight seed, giving the team a home game in the first round of the ODAC tournament on Tuesday, at 7 p.m., against an opponent as yet to be determined.

In the 80-57 win over Washington & Lee (6-18, 3-12 ODAC), Randolph (14-10, 8-7 ODAC) set a program record with 17 made threes, eclipsing the previous top mark, 15.

It took about five minutes for Randolph's offense to kick into gear after W&L took an early 9-5 lead. But once a three-pointer by first-year Tyler Crockett (Salem, Va./Glenvar) put the 'Cats ahead, they would maintain an advantage for the rest of the game.

The WildCats hit half of their 18 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half and used a 12-5 run to enter halftime ahead by 13 points.

The 41-28 halftime lead was a team-effort, as eight players contributed to Randolph's scoring in the first period of play.

On the other side of the court, the Generals struggled to hit their shots, hitting only 10 field goals in the first 20 minutes of play. In the last 4:51 of the half W&L did not score a field goal, with their three points all coming from the charity stripe.

W&L opened the second half by hitting its first two shots after Randolph missed its first two, to get within nine points, the closest that the Generals would come.

Randolph then doubled their advantage to 18 points in the first 3:05 of play with an 11-2 run, but the Generals continued to battle, using a 10-3 run to come back from a 21 point deficit halfway through the second period.

The WildCats continued to be hot from deep, breaking the program record for triples on a shot by sophomore Evan Horn (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).

The team hit on 15 threes against Guilford in 2010-11 for the previous record.

In addition, the three was Horn's sixth of the game, matching a program record in that category. He finished with a career-high 22 points.

Eight free throw shots in five minutes helped the WildCats increase their lead to 23, the biggest lead they would have in the game, with just under two minutes remaining.

Seth Wimbish's fourth three-pointer of the night, the team's 17th, closed out the victory, giving Randolph its 14th win of the season.

The team now has assured itself a top-eight seed in the ODAC tournament, and a home game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Randolph concludes its regular season on Saturday in the second half of a double-header at the RAD Center. The WildCats will host Shenandoah in a rematch of a hotly-contested affair.

Before the game, Randolph's two seniors will be honored as part of Senior Day. At halftime, there will be a special presentation for 2012-13 Jostens Trophy and Capital One Division III Academic All-American of the Year winner, Colton Hunt.
