Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The ODAC's top two defenses got together and played an uncharacteristically high-scoring game at the RAD Center today.
Randolph came out on top 76-73 in front of a full house at the RAD Center on Alumnae/Alumni Day. The game was another nailbiter, similar to the first matchup at Fleet Gymnasium in December.
Both teams are now 10-7 and 4-4 in conference play.
The WildCats had the edge in the first half, taking a eight point lead into intermission.
The first six baskets of the second half were three-pointers, three by each team, leading to a tight run of play that left the WildCats up seven with 9:20 to go.
The Tigers used a 13-3 run to take a three point edge with 5:49 left, however.
A three by senior Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) assisted by sophomore Evan Horn (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) immediately leveled the game, however.
Senior Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) hit a pair of free throws on Randolph's next trip down the court to take the lead, but a quick jumper leveled the score again.
A pair of quick runs, including an incredible tip-in by Shiflett, left the teams even with 47 seconds left, but sophomore Corey Brown (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham) hit a falling jumper to put Randolph up for good.
Three Ehilegbu freebies iced the game, and Randolph held on for victory. He finished with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Brown was 7-of-10 as well, good for 16 points.
Mike Murray matched Ehilegbu's points for H-SC.
The home team has now won eight of the nine matchups all-time in this series.
Both teams converted more than half their field goal attempts, which may come as a surprise considering the two teams were ranked nationally in scoring defense.
Randolph is back in action on Wednesday at Guilford.
