Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph College softball team struggled offensively all afternoon and couldn't get much going, dropping a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) games to Randolph-Macon College Sunday afternoon in league play. R-MC took game one 5-1, completing the sweep with an 8-1 victory in game two.
The opening contest saw the Yellow Jackets (23-6/8-4 ODAC) score three runs in the bottom of the first to take a quick 3-0 lead. Randolph-Macon extended its lead to 4-0 with a single run in the third inning, as Madison Gilman was knocked in by Katie Woody after doubling earlier in the frame. Randolph (21-11/4-8 ODAC) picked up its first tally in the fifth inning, as Jess Sanabria (Burgaw, N.C./Pender) came around on an error by R-MC.
The WildCats wouldn't be able to put anything else together, as they left seven runners on base during game one to fall 5-1. Sanabria finished with two hits for the WildCats, while Hannah Cook (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and Brittney Via (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) each had singles. Logan Carter (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) started and went five in the circle for Randolph, allowing two earned runs while fanning four Jacket hitters.
In the second game, the host Yellow Jackets notched five runs over the first three innings before the WildCats got on the board in the fourth thanks to a RBI single from Patti Vinson (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette). The power of Randolph-Macon was too much though as it connected on three homers in the game, two coming from Sharese Jarvis to earn the win.
Senior Ashley Gardner (Ashburn, Va./Stone Briade) had two doubles and a run in three at-bats, and Brittany Willingham (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) was two-for-four as well. Randolph hit into three double plays in game two, the most of any contest this season.
The WildCats will look to break their current four-game losing skid on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m., as they head to Harrisonburg, Va. for an ODAC doubleheader with Eastern Mennonite University.
