Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 24-ranked Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College connected on five homers Saturday in earning a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victories over the Randolph College softball team. VWC captured the first game 10-2 in six innings before winning the second contest 8-0 in five innings.

In the opening contest, VWC (27-4/11-0 ODAC) plated five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Kristina Karagiorgis. The Marlins chalked up another run in the fourth frame, as Tori Higginbotham connected for her 11th homer of the season. The WildCats would get on the board with two in the fourth, as Hannah Cook (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and Jess Sanabria (Burgaw, N.C./Pender) each had run-scoring singles.

Virginia Wesleyan received another solo homer in the fifth inning, this time coming from Lindsay Inzana, to take a 7-2 lead. Randolph (21-9/4-6 ODAC) threatened in the fifth but couldn't plate anyone, and Higginbotham sealed the deal for the Marlins in the sixth with a three-run shot to center field.

Sanabria finished two-for-three in the opener for Randolph, while Erin Wehrhan (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne), Ashton Ewers (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) and Brittney Via (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) each had a hit and a walk. Sophomore Patti Vinson (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) also doubled in game one for the WildCats.

In game two, the visiting Marlins again jumped out on top quickly, scoring four runs in the top of the second, two coming on a homer from Kelly Keys. VWC added another in the third frame on a solo home run by Inzana, while plating two in the fourth frame on a single from Karagiorgis. Randolph couldn't do much off Marlin starter Mackenzie Creech, who struck out nine in four innings of work.

Randolph first-year Rachel Hickman (St. Albans, W.V./St. Albans) was two-for-two for the WildCats, while Brittany Willingham (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) also had a single in game two.

The WildCats will return to conference play Sunday afternoon at Randolph-Macon College at 1 p.m. in two critical conference outings.
