Hot Shooting Lifts Randolph Men's Hoops Past Shenandoah University 65-50 Saturday

                WINCHESTER, VA – The Randolph College men's basketball team made nine of its 13 threes on the afternoon and shot 52.2 percent overall in cruising to a 65-50 victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Shingleton Gymnasium.

                The WildCats (16-3/7-3 ODAC) were great from behind the arc on Saturday, finishing a blistering 69.2 percent from downtown, a school record for a single game. Randolph missed only one of its eight three's in the first half, building a 12-point margin at the halftime break. The WildCats led by as much as 25 points late in the game, coasting to the 15-point win.

                Senior Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) finished with a game-high of 22 points, making eight of his 17 field goals. Hunt nailed four-of-six from downtown, and added five rebounds as well. First-year forward Jason Eddie (Charlotte, NC/Davidson Day School) netted a career-high of 15 points, making three-of-four from downtown.

                Senior Chris Battaglia (Smithfield, VA/Portsmouth) had double figures for the fourth consecutive contest, as he scored 11 points to go with a team-leading eight rebounds. First-year guard DJ Langley (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) played a season-high 31 minutes, grabbing eight caroms to go with four assists. Fellow first-year Evan Horn (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) notched six points and seven assists for the visiting WildCats.

                Randolph won the rebounding battle 35-29 on the afternoon, and turned the ball over just 12 times. The WildCats assisted on 15 of the 24 made buckets, and made eight of their 12 free throw attempts. Sophomore James Fitzgerald (Fredericksburg, VA/Cortland) also had four points, making both of his shots in three minutes of action.

                The Hornets (3-16/0-10 ODAC) were paced by the 13 points from Eli McEathron, as he made five of his seven attempts from the floor. Jared Carithers added 11 points, four boards and four assists, and Bryce Mitchell and Jimi Starks each added six points apiece off the bench for SU.

                The host Hornets made 33.9 percent of their field goals (19-56), knocking down just six of their 27 attempts from behind the three-point arc. Shenandoah gave the ball away just seven times on the afternoon, a season-low.

                The WildCats will return to the floor this Wednesday with another road ODAC affair, travelling to Emory & Henry College for a 6 p.m. tip off with the Wasps.
